I had difficulty approaching the seeming practical minimum period of 16 without needing one arm for every input, one helper arm to reposition an input, some short tracks and a length-3 arm on a track for output. This large hexarm solves several problems in that it can handle two different inputs, but also output them in different locations. Thankfully, little of the area it needs is wasted; previous attempts often involved higher area, so beating them with this hexarm was quite nice. At period 18, it eliminates the helper arm, one input-handling arm, and some track.

This is far from perfect--the multibonder is expensive, the machine is not period 16, and I've had designs with areas as low as 57. But I set a target for myself to beat 350, which was difficult, and I'm pleased to have done so.
